The 7th Symposium Reports
Overview
This year marked the 7th International Symposium in a series with the theme of “Fukushima’s lessons for the future: promoting health and responding to disasters.” In addition to the usual style of presenting results of the Fukushima Health Management Survey (FHMS), we introduced “Open Lecture” elements to provide information that residents need in an easier-to-understand manner, and held the event in a hybrid format with a live venue and online streaming.
Seven experts from Japan and overseas gave presentations on their knowledge of related fields and took part in lively discussions about the future.
In the Opening Session, our center's Executive Director, YASUMURA Seiji, presented an “Overview of the Fukushima Health Management Survey” to provide an overall picture of the Survey.
For the Keynote Lecture, CHENG Ming-Tai, a Clinical Lecturer at the National Taiwan University Hospital, gave a presentation on “Nuclear Disaster Medical Care and Response in Taiwan,” followed by questions and answers.
In Session 1, “Linking the achievements of the Fukushima Health Management Survey across generations,” Associate Professor SUZUKI Satoshi and Instructor OIKAWA Yuichi of our center, as well as Assistant Director HIRAI Hiroyuki of the Department of Internal Medicine at Shirakawa Kosei General Hospital, gave presentations on the “Thyroid Ultrasound Examination,” “Mental Health and Life Style Survey,” and “Comprehensive Health Check,” respectively, all part of the detailed surveys within the FHMS. Discussion that followed included a question and answer session with a lively exchange of opinions.
In Session 2, “Open Lecture for the Public,” FUJIMORI Keiya, Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, FMU School of Medicine, gave a talk entitled “Do you know? About miscarriages, congenital anomalies, and the results of the Pregnancy and Birth Survey” that included audience-response quizzes, and TSUBOKURA Masaharu, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Health Science, FMU School of Medicine, gave a talk entitled “Protecting Health After Disasters: The Evolution of Post-Earthquake Measures and Preparations You Can Start Now”, in which he talked about the evolution of measures taken after the earthquake and what we can do to prepare for the future.
