Executive Director, Dr. Yasumura, provided an overview of the Fukushima Health Management Survey, followed by a presentation by Dr. Tsubokura, Director, Office of Health Communication, on risk communication during the Great East Japan Earthquake. During the Q&A session, there was an active exchange of views and opinions on the social impacts of the disaster, post-disaster mental health initiatives, and how healthcare professionals can contribute to radiation education and risk communication in Fukushima. Some participants commented that the visit was a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of disaster-related deaths and post-disaster activities of medical professionals.
The scholars also observed initiatives related to telephone-based support conducted as part of the Pregnancy and Birth Survey and the Mental Health and Lifestyle Survey, as well as a demonstration of Thyroid Ultrasound Examination procedures explained by Vice Director Dr. Shimura.
