Collaboration with the 13 municipalities designated as evacuation zone
Information on the health effects of radiation, including updates on the Fukushima Health Management Survey, was provided and shared with public health nurses and municipal staff responsible for health and welfare services. Opinion exchange meetings were also held with participants to gather feedback and requests for the Center (23 sessions; 77 participants in total).
Operation of a call center
Our call center responds to inquiries and requests from those who are eligible for the survey by phone or e-mail, such as questions about each survey and request for making or changing reservations for examinations and updating registered personal information.
Information provision through the website
Commentary on health promotion with frequent online accesses
We provide various information through our website, including notices on dates and results of examinations, list of published papers, and digital version of our leaflets.
At the international symposium held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, questions submitted by participants regarding the Fukushima Health Management Survey, together with the corresponding responses, are presented in a Q&A format and updated on our official website.
Open lectures
Public lectures were delivered to disseminate the findings and insights from the Fukushima Health Management Survey in a clear, structured manner, with an emphasis on key messages. These lectures also aimed to contribute to the maintenance and promotion of residents’ health. A total of five sessions were delivered, including three online and two in-person.
Information dissemination via social media
Information derived from the Survey, as well as content relevant to health promotion, was disseminated through the Center’s official X (formerly Twitter) account regularly, with at least one post per week (78 posts in FY2024).
Exhibition at Iki-iki Health Promotion Forum in Aizuwakamatsu City
A booth exhibition was held at the “Ikiiki Health Promotion Forum in Aizuwakamatsu,” where panel displays presented an overview, recent updates, and key findings of the Fukushima Health Management Survey, along with information on lifestyle-related diseases. In addition, measurements of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and demonstrations using fat models were conducted (total visitors: 271).
International information dissemination
We publish English-language information materials on the survey, including materials submitted to the meetings of the Oversight Committee for Fukushima Health Management Survey. Documentation of Prefectural Oversight Committee Meetings
Organize international conferences with experts from international organizations, etc.
We hold an annual international symposium to disseminate the latest findings from the survey and better interpret the survey results through discussions with renowned researchers from Japan and abroad in hope that the outcomes of the symposiums help maintain and improve the health of Fukushima residents. 7th: February 20, 2025
On Monday, July 29, 2024, Dr. SAFINA of Gisenyi District Hospital in Rwanda visited the Center. He engaged in discussions with Dr. YASUMURA, Executive Director, discussed the health of residents following disasters and toured the Center’s facilities.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, a group of 15 students from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health visited the Center. They received an overview of the Fukushima Health Management Survey from Dr. YASUMURA. Executive Director of the Center participated in a question-and-answer session and toured the Center’s facilities.
From Wednesday, March 12 to Thursday, March 13, 2025, an expert meeting was held at FMU Fukushima Ekimae Campus, based on the Practical Arrangements with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The meeting brought together 29 participants from nine countries, including IAEA headquarters staff and international experts, and focused on lessons learned from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and risk communication in the post-disaster context from a Science, Technology, and Society perspective.
Conference participation
On Monday, June 24, 2024, Dr. YASUMURA, Executive Director, participated in a workshop on low-dose radiation effects research organized by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency in Paris.
In addition to disseminating information and collecting and sharing knowledge regarding the status of the Fukushima Health Management Survey, the effects of radiation in Fukushima, and the health conditions of residents, faculty members of the Center participated in various meetings and conferences both domestically and internationally, including online formats.
Other
To obtain international expertise and further disseminate information on the Fukushima Health Management Survey, the Center has concluded agreements and similar arrangements with international organizations. Partner Organizations: IAEA / ICRP
