Dr. Emmanuel SAFINA, Ministry of Health at Gisenyi District Hospital, Republic of Rwanda, visited our center
Dr. SAFINA, who works at the Gisenyi District Hospital of the Ministry of Health in Rwanda, visited our university on July 29. At our center, Dr. SAFINA received the explanatory overview of the Fukushima Health Management Survey by Dr. Yasumura, the Executive Director, toured the storage room for Thyroid Ultrasound Examination specimens, and observed how ultrasound examinations are performed.
Rwanda is known for its violent civil war in the mid-1990s. Since then, however, the country has made a miraculous recovery through the establishment of peace and stability, education reform, and other measures.
In addition, Rwanda is actively pursuing a nuclear energy policy to achieve further social development, sustainable economic growth, and a stable energy supply. With this background, Dr. SAFINA actively asked questions and exchanged opinions to learn lessons from the Fukushima Health Management Survey, which has been conducted in Fukushima Prefecture since the 3.11 disaster, to find out what kind of preparations and responses are needed from medical professionals in the event of a nuclear emergency.
